Bursary: $6000.00 (non-renewable)

To qualify an applicant must satisfy all selection criteria:

  • Be a Black Canadian Student graduating from a high school in the city of Ottawa.
  • Have an interim or final average of at least 75% in 6 grade 12 courses.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen.
  • Be admissible to a recognized Canadian university.
  • Demonstrate a need of financial assistance.
  • Demonstrate leadership in community involvement.

Required documents:

  1. A two-page essay explaining why this scholarship is important to the applicant and how the applicant will satisfy the eligibility criteria (e.g., academic achievement, school and community involvement, extra-curricular activities, education plans and financial need.)
  2. A photocopy of the applicant’s latest official transcript of 6 Grade 12 courses with an interim or final average of at least 75% in six (6) Grade 12 courses
  3. A letter of recommendation from a teacher/guidance counsellor in current academic year.
  4. Proof of community work.
  5. Proof of Canadian citizenship (we will accept one of the following documents as proof: a Canadian passport; or a Canadian birth certificate; or a Canadian citizenship card/certificate).
  6. A detailed statement indicating the amount of money expected from various sources (ex: family/relatives, personal savings, employment, loans, and scholarships.
  • Applications without ALL the required supporting documents will not be considered
  • Landed immigrant status will not be accepted as proof of Canadian citizenship

The Black Canadian Scholarship Fund (BCSF) Committee reserves the right to verify the accuracy of the information given by all applicants. The name(s) and/or photo(s) of the recipient(s) for this award will be published on the BCSF website (www.bcsf.ca) and may be used in other promotional material. If applicants are under 18 years of age, they must co-sign the application form with a parent or guardian.
