In a very keen competition, Maggie emerged as the superior applicant and winner of the inaugural scholarship offered by the Black Canadian Scholarship Fund Committee. Not only had she maintained an excellent academic record during her high school career, she also showed exemplary leadership which was clearly recognized when she won the Caroline Murphy Cooperative Education Award at the Commencement Ceremony of her school, Glebe Collegiate Institute. Her participation in numerous activities within her school and, as well, in her community, made her a model to be emulated.
Maggie Fondong has just completed her honours degree in Biochemistry at Trent Univeristy. Maggie, is a recipient of an Undergraduate Student Research Awards funded by the National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and is working on the Giardia project under the direction of Dr. Janet Yee.
