- The BCSF was established on May 1, 1996, by members
of the Ottawa-Carleton community to offer fully funded scholarships
to black canadian students who qualify for admission to post-secondary
institutions.
- The goal of the organization was to establish a fund
that would grow in perpetuity. Dividends from this fund as well as monies
collected through fundraising events are used for annual scholarships
or bursaries to selected students.
- This growing fund is managed through the Community
Foundation of Ottawa who also distribute the bursaries.
- Since 1996, annual fundraising events include: a spring
showcase, a night at the races, a golf tournament and a Christmas dinner-dance
gala. For more information on these events, please see our calendar
of events.
- Since 1999, the fund has given out scholarships and
several bursaries totalling $70,000.00.
- Fund are held in trust with the Ottawa Community
Foundation.
